Right to Life NZ commends US Catholic Bishops' Conference stance on abortion in election build up

Editor,

NZ Catholic.

Dear Michael,

Right to Life believes that those who are prepared to kill the unborn should not be trusted to govern the born. The United States Catholic Bishops’ Conference have reaffirmed that abortion ,the killing of unborn children, continues to be the preeminent moral issue for the election in 2024. The Bishops have resolved not to revise its voting guide titled “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship.”

The Bishops’ Conference is to be applauded for providing outstanding moral leadership not only for the American laity but for the laity in the Universal Church. The guide states, “The threat of abortion remains our preeminent priority because it directly attacks life itself, because it takes place within the sanctuary of the family, and because of the number of lives destroyed. At the same time, we cannot dismiss or ignore other serious threats to human life and dignity such as racism, the environmental crisis, poverty and the death penalty.” Roe v Wade that unconstitutionally recognised in 1977 a right to abortion was overturned by the Supreme Court in June, 2022. In the preceding forty-five years sixty –four million unborn babies were violently killed in the United States.

Yours faithfully,

Ken Orr,
