Dear Sir,
I wish to lodge a complaint on behalf of Right to Life to the award of Young New Zealander of the Year for 2023 to the controversial Shaneel LaL
We are aware that this person was responsible for organising a violent demonstration of transgender supporters against women at an event recently at Albert Park in Auckland, women were harassed, abused, spat upon and assaulted.
Shaneel Lal, the founder of the controversial Conversion Therapy Action Group, won the Young New Zealander of the Year award on Friday for leading the efforts to ban conversion therapy in 2022. Lal's win has prompted mixed reviews.This is the same person that was personally responsible for the violence at Albert Park and the suppression of free speech of the British Women’s Rights advocate, Possi Parker and other women.
I believe that it is scandalous that a young person who campaigned for violence against women at Albert Park should be acclaimed and applauded as a role model for young people in New Zealand.
His award is an insult to the young people of New Zealand.
This award reflects badly on the reputation of Kiwi Bank.
