Government funds killing of unborn and threatens women’s health!

Updated: Jun 21, 2023

Media Release 19 April 2023

Right to Life requests that the government in the interest of protecting the lives of our precious unborn and the health of their mothers immediately terminate the National Abortion Telehealth Service which seeks to normalise the killing of the unborn as a health service and the final solution. There is an increasing call from women worldwide calling for the banning of Mifepristone and Misoprostol for abortions.

Since the 1st November the government has allowed women seeking to terminate the lives of their unborn children within the first 10 weeks of their life to have lethal abortion drugs couriered to their home or to have a prescription for the drugs sent to their local pharmacy.

The drugs are taken without medical supervision. The government has no assurance that the lethal drugs are taken by the woman for whom the prescription was made out to. This is a gross failure of care and constitutes the abandonment of women and their defenceless unborn child.

The Ministry of Health advised Right to Life that it does receive some advice from Family Planning and Magma Health, the contractors for the killing of unwanted unborn children, that some women:-

  • Change their decision to have an abortion and choose life for their child.

  • Decide to have a surgical abortion.

  • Have also received a second supply of the abortion drugs.

  • Have a miscarriage.

  • Have an ectopic pregnancy.

The Ministry of Health advised Right to Life recently in response to an Official Information Act request that there was no process in place to recover these unused lethal drugs.

Right to Life believes that the Ministry is remiss in not recovering these lethal unused drugs which could be used illegally by others to give to a woman to kill her unborn child without her knowledge or consent.

It should also be matter of great concern that it is possible for a woman to obtain these lethal drugs from two abortion providers without the Ministry being aware or apparently concerned.

It should also be of great concern that all pharmacies are now abortion providers and are permitted to stock these lethal drugs to fulfil prescriptions. Right to Life asks, with the increase in burglaries, how secure are these drugs?

There were 13,257 abortions reported in New Zealand in 2021. A total of 5,811 abortions were early medical abortions ie 43.8 % of the total.

These are dangerous drugs designed to kill the unborn up to 10 weeks and have a high rate of complications. Since the introduction of mifepristone 20 years ago 24 women have died worldwide following an early medical abortion.
