Will churches defend lives of unborn children, God’s precious infants?

Right to Life believes that churches should be at the forefront in defending the lives of God’s precious infants and their mothers.
Right to Life commends the United States Catholic Bishop’s Conference for recently initiating a campaign of prayer and action to stop pharmacies selling lethal abortion pills to kill unborn children in Early Medical Abortions during their first ten weeks of life.
Right to Life encourages churches in New Zealand to follow the example of the American Catholic Bishops.
The initiative involves three core components:
Focused Prayer: Participants are asked to pray for an end to abortion, specifically invoking the intercession of St. Joseph, Defender of Life.
Advocacy and Digital Action: The USCCB has deployed an online platform allowing Catholics to directly email retail pharmacies, online distributors, and pharmaceutical companies to urge them to stop selling chemical abortion drugs.
Community Education: The campaign provides educational resources explaining the Church's teachings, highlighting what they cite as rising health risks to women, and clarifying distinctions between miscarriage management and elective chemical abortion.
In 2025 there was a provisional total of 11,871 unborn babies killed in Early Medical Abortions in New Zealand, [EMA] 67% of the total of 17,964 babies killed in 2025. In 2020 the number of babies killed by EMA was 36% of the total number of abortions.
Today the Ministry of Health promotes the killing of children before birth, for effectively ANY reason, as health care and as a “core health service”. EMAs are available to every woman regardless of where she lives. There is no place in New Zealand where any of God’s precious infants are safe from the government-funded chemical warfare against our unborn children.
In response to an Official Information Act request from Right to Life, the Ministry of Health recently advised that there were 550 pharmacies registered on their list, which were authorised to dispense the abortion pills Mifepristone and Misoprostol. These pharmacies are now registered abortion providers. There are 1100 registered pharmacies in New Zealand.
Right to Life is concerned that the pharmacy profession in New Zealand is under increasing attack from the culture of death. If today we allow pharmacies to dispense lethal drugs to kill the unborn, then we should expect that in the future they will be expected to dispense lethal drugs to kill the born.
Right to Life requests that our Bishops and church leaders follow the example of the American bishops and call for a campaign of prayer and action.
