Stop the state killing of our Holy Innocents!

Abortion babies New Zealand

The murder of the holy innocents at Bethlehem two thousand years ago continues today in our own country. Right to Life asks how can the churches commemorate their grief on the 28th December at the murder of probably 20 holy innocents by King Herod at Bethlehem, yet remain silent at the continuing slaughter of holy innocent unborn children every day in New Zealand?

Every day in New Zealand an estimated 36 unborn children are taken to abortion facilities to be poisoned, sucked out of their mother’s wombs or violently dismembered. They too, like the Holy Innocents, are seen by our Herodian-like State as a threat to the ruler, their killing authorised and funded by the State.

Right to Life believes that our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, who supports the killing of God’s precious infants as a health service, is unwittingly following the murderous example of King Herod.

We should be moved by the plaintiff Jeremiah, the prophet: “A voice was heard in Ramah, sobbing and loud lamentation; Rachel weeping for her children, and she would not be consoled, since they were no more” (Jeremiah 31:15).

Today we should weep with our sisters, the wounded and victimised women who weep for their children torn from their womb by the state.

More than 2000 years ago King Herod, being fearful on learning that the Christ child had been born and would challenge his reign, was enraged and ordered that all the boys in Bethlehem under the age of 2 be killed.

Killing children in the womb now is as evil as it was in the days of Herod. Right to Life will never support any public policy or legislation which calls the killing of innocent children “a choice” and protects such an evil act with the power of the state. Jesus Christ was a child in the womb. Every child in the womb is not only a human person but he or she is also our neighbor. It is always and everywhere wrong to kill our innocent neighbours.

Every child killed by voluntary abortion in our own age is a Holy Innocent. Every politician who supports this killing, implicitly or explicitly, carries on the evil act of Herod. Today we have a parliament and a government that supports the killing of the innocent.

Right to Life reaffirms its commitment to work during the coming year for the repeal of the Abortion Legislation Act 2020, designed by the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, which effectively allows for the killing of the holy innocent unborn children up to birth.
