Media Release 11 October 2026

The leaders debate on TV1 on Tuesday 6 October 2026 carefully ignored the major justice issue confronting New Zealand today, the killing of New Zealanders in the first nine months of their life in violation of their God-given inalienable right to life from conception to natural death.

This carefully orchestrated debate ensured that the war against women and the violation of the right to life of our precious unborn children, were both studiously ignored. The right to life of the unborn and the war against women are the most important justice issues of this era.

In New Zealand in the year 2025, 17,964 innocent and defenceless unborn children were murdered before they were born.

Human life begins at conception and every child, regardless of the circumstances of their conception, is a unique and unrepeatable miracle of God’s loving creation. At conception they are endowed by their Creator with an inalienable right to life.

Abortion is intrinsically evil and violates the Fifth Commandment of God, You shall not kill.

Abortion also violates the human rights of the child and it is a crime against humanity.

Our political leaders, the Prime Minister, Right Hon. Christopher Luxon and the leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Christopher Hipkins, are inviting us to elect either of them to govern our country for the next 3 years.

Those who govern us do so with the permission of the governed. Those who are not prepared to protect the lives of the unborn should not be trusted to govern the born.

Both leaders in this debate sought to convince us that they were advocates for a culture of life. Right to Life believes that in reality our leaders are advocates for a culture of death, for these following reasons:

• They refuse to accept that human life begins at conception, and that each child is a human being endowed with an inalienable right to life.

• They reject the status of the unborn child as a person and the weakest and most defenceless member of the human family.

• They believe that every woman has a right to kill their children before they are born.

• They believe that the murder of the unborn is not a crime and is ”reproductive health care”.

Right to Life encourages our political leaders to recognise that abortion is murder and violence, inflicted on the innocent unborn and that the mother is the second victim of abortion.
