Chris Hipkins – Abysmal voting record on life issues

Updated: Feb 22, 2023

Media Release 23 January 2023

Right to Life believes that New Zealand desperately needs political leaders who are committed to promoting a culture of life, opposing a culture of death and who uphold God’s plan for humanity by respecting and protecting the sanctity of life of every human being from conception to natural death and who uphold marriage as exclusively between one man and one woman.

Chris Hipkins is to be our Prime Minister and the leader of a government that claims to be committed to practising kindness, compassion, fairness and social justice. The reality is that this government has funded the State killing of more than 60,000 defenceless unborn New Zealanders and the killing of 214 seriously ill patients, all under the pretext that this is health care.

Right to Life is greatly saddened by the knowledge that the newly appointed Prime Minister and his deputy have a Parliamentary voting record that consistently supports the killing of the unborn and the vulnerable ill.

Right to Life asks why should we trust them to govern us when they are prepared to promote the war against women and kill innocent and defenceless unborn children and the vulnerable ill.

Why does the Labour party which seeks to win the next election believe that the electorate is going to support this leadership and reward Labour with a third term?

The new Prime Minister applauds Jacinda Ardern. “Jacinda has worked tirelessly over the last five years to make New Zealand a better place for everyone. Her commitment to kindness, fairness and social justice embodied our Labour values.” “I am so proud to continue this mahi.”

Right to Life fears that the new Prime Minister and his deputy will continue promoting a culture of death that supports the war on women, the unborn child the traditional family and the sick and vulnerable in our community.

The community should be aware that both Chris Hipkins and Carmel Sepuloni have an identical record in voting to support a culture of death and to oppose a culture of life. :-

  • In 2013 they supported same sex marriage, which denies the truth that marriage was instituted by our Creator to be exclusively between one man and one woman.

  • In 2015 they voted against a law to ban street prostitution, believing that women are for sale and that men have a right to exploit women.

  • In 2019 they supported empowering and funding doctors to kill their patients with a lethal injection or to assist in their suicide.

  • In 2020 they supported killing unborn children up to 20 weeks for any reason and up to birth if a doctor considers it “appropriate.” It is their belief that unborn children are not human beings and don’t have a right to life until they are born. It is no longer a crime to kill a New Zealander in the first nine months of life. They believe that every woman has a right to kill her children before they are born, funded by the State. They also voted against the five amendments that would have provided protection for women and their unborn child. They support the right to kill up to birth, unborn children with Down syndrome or other disability.

Right to Life believes that both the Prime Minister and his deputy have a fundamental duty to uphold and protect the inalienable right to life of every human being in our community from conception to natural death.

Right to Life encourages the Labour Party to return to the principles of the great Labour leaders, Michael Joseph Savage, Peter Fraser, Walter Nash and Norman Kirk who defended life and family.

The once great Labour Party that previously valiantly defended the right to life and the traditional family has sadly lost its way. New Zealand needs a Labour Party which protects the life of unborn children, protects women from the violence of abortion and upholds the traditional family ordained by God of one man and one woman.
