Beware the death peddlers!

Media Release 5 April 2026

Right to Life believes that the pharmacies of Bargain Chemists and Chemist Warehouse are death peddlers and enable the killing of defenceless unborn children.

Right to Life believes that all of the Bargain Chemists 27 pharmacies, and Chemist Warehouse’s 70 pharmacies are prepared to sell and dispense prescriptions to poison and kill their unborn patients. It is believed that they are responsible for killing thousands of unborn children since 2023.

Pharmacists who are not prepared to protect the lives of the unborn should not be trusted to protect the lives of those who are born.

Pharmacies are prohibited from prescribing anything lethal which kills their patients. Unborn children are God’s precious infants and are patients. Unborn children are the weakest and most defenceless members of the human family deserving of respect and special protection.

The code of ethics of the pharmacy profession in New Zealand profess as their first principle:

”A pharmacist makes the health and wellbeing of their patient their first priority”.

Right to life believes that pharmacies which are prepared to fill and sell prescriptions for the lethal abortion drugs Mifepristone and Misoprostol violate the right to life of the unborn, the fifth commandment of God: You shall not kill, and they violate the ethics of their profession.

Right to Life believes that they have undermined the trust that the community has that pharmacists will do no harm, and will not kill patients.

We believe that we have a duty to promote a culture of life and oppose a culture of death and we should refuse to patronise them and any other pharmacy which is prepared to sell these lethal abortion drugs. If we were to continue to patronise these pharmacies, we would be giving tacit approval to their enabling the killing of unborn children.

There are an estimated 1100 registered pharmacies in New Zealand. In response to an Official Information Act request from Right to Life, the NZ Ministry of Health advised ” that there are currently 550 pharmacies that have indicated that they will provide Early Medical Abortion [EMA] medicines if presented with a prescription for these medicines.“

There were 11 892 unborn children who were killed by poisoning by prescription pharmacy drugs in EMA’s in 2024. The drugs used were Mifepristone and Misoprostol. Right to Life is appalled at the high number of pharmacies which are prepared to supply these drugs to kill their unborn patients.

Right to Life is disappointed that our parliament has legislated to allow for the killing of unborn children, for any reason, effectively up to birth and that it refuses to recognise the humanity and right to life of the unborn until they are born.

Right to Life commends the approximately 550 pharmacies, which refuse to dispense the abortion pills to kill innocent and defenceless unborn children. They are upholding the biological truth that unborn children are human beings and are their most vulnerable patients, they deserve our trust and patronage.
