Media Release 29 September 2026

Right to Life challenges the international pro-abortion movement and abortion profiteers who celebrate the killing of defenceless children. They perpetuate the fiction in their war against women by calling abortion “safe” and celebrating International Safe Abortion Day on 28 September 2026.

The abortion industry denies the humanity of the unborn child, and upholds the fiction that the child does not become a human being endowed with an inalienable right to life, until it is born. There is and there will always be a stigma associated with the violent killing of God’s precious infants.

Every child, regardless of the circumstances of their conception, is a unique and unrepeatable miracle of God’s loving creation, who is deserving of our respect and protection.

The abortion industry claims that unborn children can be killed up to birth safely. Right to Life upholds the truth that abortion is never safe, the poisoning of the unborn child, the scraping of the child out of the womb or their violent dismemberment, results in the killing of a human being and the grievous wounding of the mother.

The celebration of the safe murder of the unborn was celebrated in 85 countries, including New Zealand, by Sexual Wellbeing Aotearoa [formerly Family Planning New Zealand] and the Abortion Providers Group, which Right to Life believe, are at the forefront of the war against women in New Zealand.

Right to Life is painfully aware that abortion providers murdered 17,964 children before birth in 2025, which they claim were safely killed as a “health service” and a human right.

Right to Life is opposed to the war against women, and we will never ever accept abortion as a “safe health service” or as a human right.

The choosing of this day is as sinister as the death peddlers of the abortion industry. On 28 September 1871, Brazil passed the Lei do Ventre Livre, the Law of the Free Womb. Children born afterward to enslaved women were declared free, although their mothers remained enslaved. 120 years later, in November 1990, Brazilian delegates attending the Fifth Encuentro Feminista (the fifth feminist encounter) in San Bernardo, Argentina, proposed using the anniversary as a regional day to demand legalized abortion.

The campaign went global in 2011, and adopted its current name in 2015. International Safe Abortion Day is not a United Nations observance. It is an NGO campaign which took an anniversary, associated with freeing children from slavery, and turned it into a day celebrating the freedom to murder those children before birth.
