Right to Life opposed to nomination of Michelle Bachelet as the next Secretary General of the United Nations!

Right to Life requests that the Right Hon. Winston Peters, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, refrains from supporting the nomination of Michelle Bachelet as the next Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Michelle Bachelet, a former Premier of Chile, has been nominated by Brazil and Mexico. The government of Chile opposes her nomination and withdrew their support for her nomination in March 2026 because she is opposed to Chile’s defence of life and family.
Right to Life is opposed to her nomination, because she is a vocal advocate for the decriminalising of abortion. She believes that abortion up to birth is a “human right”.
She believes that the unborn child is not a human being from conception endowed by its Creator with an inalienable right to life and that the child only becomes a human being when it is born. The nominee believes that every woman has a right to kill her children before they are born.
We believe that her appointment as the next Secretary General of the United Nations would be a serious threat to the lives of unborn children and to the health of their mothers who are the second victim of abortion.
We respectfully request that you support the nomination of a candidate for the position of Secretary General who respects the right to life of every human being from conception to natural death, and who upholds marriage as comprising exclusively of one man and one woman.
