Media Release 11 December 2025

Christopher Hipkins, leader of the Labour party, is asking the community to elect him and the Labour Party at the general election in 2026 to govern us for the next 3 years. He should be prepared to be intently scrutinised by the community, to ensure that he will uphold the right to life of every human being from conception, and promote marriage as exclusively one man and one women.

Those who seek to govern us should be committed to protecting the lives of every New Zealander from conception to natural death.

Right to Life believes that the natural family is the foundation of a healthy community. The family in New Zealand is under attack with increased fatherlessness and solo mothering, resulting from many men abandoning their families.

Right to Life believes that the Prime Minister should be a role model in upholding marriage, founded by our Creator of exclusively of one man and one woman. That children should be conceived within marriage. That fathers have a responsibility to provide and protect their family.

It is public knowledge that Christopher Hipkins left his wife and their two children in 2022 and has announced his intention to marry another woman. Right to Life believes that this is not the example that New Zealand deserves and needs.

Right to Life believes that while possessing many good attributes, sadly Chris Hipkins, is not the role model for families that New Zealand needs. Right to Life asks why should we trust him to govern us, when he is prepared to promote the war against women and kill innocent and defenceless unborn children and the vulnerable elderly and those with terminal illnesses?

Why does the Labour party, which seeks to win the next election, believe that the electorate is going to support his leadership and reward Labour with our permission to govern us?

Chris Hipkins has a poor track record in defending the traditional family and Christian marriage:

• In 2013 he supported same sex marriage, which denies the truth that marriage was instituted by our Creator to be exclusively between one man and one woman.

• In 2015 he voted against a law to ban street prostitution, believing that women are for sale and that men have a right to exploit women.

• In 2019 he supported empowering and funding doctors to kill their eligible patients with a lethal injection or to assist in their suicide.

• In 2020 He supported the extremist Abortion Legislation Act designed by Jacinda Ardern that permits killing unborn children up to 20 weeks for any reason and up to birth if a doctor considers it “appropriate.” It is his belief that unborn children are not human beings and don’t have a right to life until they are born. It is no longer a crime to kill a New Zealander in the first 9 months of life.

• He believes that every woman has a right to kill her children before they are born, funded by the State. He also voted against the sex amendments that would have provided protection for women and their unborn child. He supports the right to kill up to birth, unborn children with Down syndrome or other disability.

Right to Life encourages the Labour Party to return to the principles of the great Labour leaders, Michael Joseph Savage, Peter Fraser, Walter Nash and Norman Kirk who defended life and family.

The once great Labour Party that previously valiantly defended the right to life and the traditional family, has sadly lost its way.

New Zealand needs a Labour Party whose members protect the life of unborn children, protect women from the violence of abortion, uphold the traditional marriage, ordained by God, of one man and one woman, and protect the natural family.

Right to Life encourages the community to vote only for candidates for parliament at the 2026 general election, who are committed to defending the right to life of our precious unborn children and protecting the health of their mothers.
