Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Week – a Wave of Light

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Week (9–15 October), also known internationally as Baby Loss Awareness Week, is a time when parents, families, churches, and community organisations throughout the world pause to remember babies lost through miscarriage, stillbirth, and early infant death.
The commemoration includes the Global Wave of Light, an act of remembrance that takes place on 15 October at 7 p.m. local time. As each time zone reaches 7 p.m., candles are lit in remembrance of babies lost during pregnancy, stillbirth, or in infancy, creating a continuous “wave of light” that encircles the globe for 24 hours.
While some people take part in the “wave of light” in their own homes, various
organisations provide opportunities for people to gather together for this event. For instance, this year, The Beatitudes Community at the Sanctuary of Fourvière in Leithfield celebrated a Mass of Remembrance on October 15, followed by the lighting of candles at 7 p.m. at their Memorial for the Unborn.
Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Week has a natural alignment with Christian, pro-life values, as it highlights that life in the womb is precious
